Presented by the Gordon College Department of Music and Chapel Office, the event will use music to explore the richness, beauty, and mystery of the psalms. Participants will listen to live performances of four musical interpretations of Psalm 13, written by a diverse collection of Christian composers, including Gordon faculty member Dr. Mary Montgomery Koppel, and Director of Worship Bil Mooney-McCoy. Then, through discussion led by Professor Delvyn Case from Wheaton College, MA, they will consider how the different musical settings help us experience, understand, and appreciate the depth and subtlety of this powerful psalm of lament and deliverance.

This event was developed by Deus Ex Musica, an ecumenical organization that promotes sacred music as a resource for learning and spiritual growth. Along with Montgomery Koppel, this evening’s performers will be Carrie Cheron from the Grammy-nominated Skylark Vocal Ensemble and pianist Julia Scott Carey.
