"Fighting Scots: How a Kidnapped Teen Became the First Social Influencer to Challenge Human Trafficking"

Dr. Jennifer Hevelone-Harper ’92, inaugural holder of the Loring-Phillips Endowed Professorship in History, presents a mini lecture. This talk reintroduces us to a familiar name, St. Patrick, whose story offers us more than parades and wearing green. He was the first enslaved person to escape from slavery and go on to write about his experiences. He returned to the land of his captivity as one of the Christianity’s earliest missionaries, and when his new flock was attacked, he leveraged social opinion to fight for the powerless.
